Tweet Tweet – Where’s the Value?
Is your business in or out, when it comes, to Twitter and social media?
If you’re out, the big question will be ‘what can Twitter do for my business?’ Even if you’re in, you may find time spent on Twitter/social media difficult to justify.
For any business considering using social media, it’s important to focus on the message not the medium – Twitter is just another channel through which to communicate. The unique attribute that Twitter delivers is the ability to make connections – you develop real time conversations with other people on Twitter – finding common interests. Just like the ‘real’ networking that has always been a vital part of business – Twitter is another way of networking, of making connections.
When advising clients we look at how they can incorporate Social Media into their current PR plan. We need to work out what the Twitter account or Facebook page can do for your business – it’s important to have a sound strategy for social media, just like any other communication tool.
Twitter is a very useful, interesting and even exciting tool when used correctly; and can put you and your brand in front of people you may not have had access to before. Twitter builds awareness and authority. Whilst the same can be said of face-to-face networking, it can be hard to ‘work the room’ at an event when everyone else is doing the same. Twitter feels less like a sales pitch and more like an open and honest conversation. Yes, there may be scope for a sales pitch later down the line, but opening up that dialogue and getting to know someone as a person rather than a business opportunity can be both rewarding and satisfying for you and your business.
In summary, the way we communicate is evolving, but the messaging hasn’t changed.
Go on, tweet about it!
