Essentially Me To Take a Bite of the Big Apple!
World-renowned British Perfumer, Alec Lawless of Essentially Me, is making a rare visit to New York to teach his unique natural perfumery courses.
Weaving together stories of the history of perfume – from the court of Cleopatra to the salons of Paris – with anecdotes of adventures seeking out the rarest natural ingredients, Alec takes students on a truly special olfactory journey.
With a choice of two courses, you will work with some of the finest natural aromatics available: from the ethereal floral essences of jasmine, osmanthus and gardenia; to the balsamic frankincense and benzoin. You will learn to link with herbs and woods – thyme, chamomile, sandalwood, cedarwood; to mix spices like caraway and nutmeg; and introduce intrigue with agrestic beeswax and hay, maverick patchouli, blackcurrant bud or cocoa.
A gifted and enthusiastic teacher, Alec’s classes provide students of all levels with the opportunity for guided experimentation, lively discussion and access to his unrivalled expertise.
Alec will be teaching 2 courses at the Open Centre in Manhattan during his trip. The five day artisan perfumery course takes place from July 18th until the 22nd – where participants will study in depth technical and creative approaches to blending perfume professionally. There’s also the Perfume Blending Masterclass which can be taken as an evening class across four nights (18th-22nd July, 7pm until 10pm) or as a weekend course (9th-10th July or 23rd-24th July, 9am-5pm) where you will look in detail at the structural rules that determine the performance of natural fragrances.
